Still Life
Have something to skech with you every time. You never know when your eye will see. Before I ever had any ideas about painting, I sat on a terrace with a coffee and thought 'wouldn't it be nice to be able to draw my mug on the latticed metal table top'. I had a go and you can see for yourself. I stopped myself because it was not so good. What I hadn't learned was that I needed practice and practice meant learning by getting things wrong. With practice and looking, you do get better.
I struggle a bit with this, as I get older. Focusing on looking at an object to see it really can strain my eyes and is tiring. But it doesn't have to be. Re-reading my notes, I see I was transported by drawing portraits and lost in time. There is so much involved in creating art. So many processes - painting, drawing, research, visiting, photography - that I need time. I need to get me a plan. Well, I'm time rich. And this is what I love doing, so..?
Keep going!!
