Walking Liverpool City Region

Liverpool is such a beautiful city to wander around. Outside the city centre, it is still largely a collection of villages. Originally from the north, more industrial and commercial end of the city, moving near to the city centre before settling in the south end of the city, I notice the joins, like pieces in a big jigsaw puzzle.

The first time I sat on top of a mountain looking down after walking up there, I was on a school residential trip to the Lake District. I felt I'd gone to heaven, it was so beautiful. Back home, it was rather different with green, open spaces used mainly for sports and recreation. In my twenties, I walked everywhere in town (the city centre) because you could. It is so compact. I also walked to work, 5 to 6 miles there and back, because I didn't have the money for the bus. it also made me very fit. When my marriage ended, one of the things I did was join The Rambler's Association, venturing out on 12 mile walks on a Sunday in all weathers was fantastic. This grew into a habit during the last ten years or so of my paid working life of either walking into work through the parks or back home along the riverside promenade. The views and colours were life-enriching, even occasionally in the darkness of early evening, broken by the sounds of the river. I love walking (and cycling). I walk most days. It gives my senses a chance to open.
